Target Background

Function
Acts as a transcriptional repressor. Inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. Enhances or represses the promoter activity of the ATP1A1 gene depending on the quantity of cDNA and on the cell type. Represses E-cadherin promoter and induces an epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by recruiting SMARCA4/BRG1. Represses BCL6 transcription in the presence of the corepressor CTBP1. Positively regulates neuronal differentiation. Represses RCOR1 transcription activation during neurogenesis. Represses transcription by binding to the E box (5'-CANNTG-3'). Promotes tumorigenicity by repressing stemness-inhibiting microRNAs.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These results suggested that EPN3 enhances the migration and invasion of glioblastoma cells by activating the transcription factors Slug, Twist and ZEB1, but not Snail 1 or ZEB2, to induce EMT in glioma cells; EPN3 involvement in the Notch and WNT/betacatenin signaling pathways may contribute to this process. PMID: 30226603
  2. The results demonstrated that ZEB1 was a direct target of miR-200c, and overexpression of miR-200c inhibited the expression of ZEB1 and alpha-SMA. These findings suggest that downregulation of miR-200c in oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) may be involved in the pathogenesis of areca nut-associated OSF through regulation of ZEB1. PMID: 29958727
  3. The present study provides the first evidence that UCA1 promotes glioma metastasis through the miR-204-5p/ZEB1 axis, contributing to the understanding of the pathogenesis of glioma. PMID: 30107990
  4. High ZEB1 expression is associated with Gastric Cancer. PMID: 29295724
  5. Results found that the expression of miR-431 was increased in preeclampsia (PE) patients, whereas, the expression of ZEB1 was decreased. Furthermore, miR-431 was shown to inhibit the migration and invasion of trophoblastic cells by targeting ZEB1, which might give rise to the onset of PE. PMID: 30315928
  6. Zeb1 role in the metastatic dissemination, cancer stem cells and neoplasm resistance to treatment. [review] PMID: 29254997

PMID: 29901177
  12. Data show a direct binding between TP73-AS1, miR-200a and ZEB1. TP73-AS1 promoted ZEB1 expression via competing with its 3'UTR for miR-200a binding. ZEB1 binds the promoter region of TP73-AS1 activating its expression. TP73-AS1 and ZEB1 expression was increased, whereas miR-200a expression was low in breast cancer (BC). 16. The percentages of ZEB1 high expression and ZEB2 high expression were 31.9% (29/91) and 41.9% (36/91), respectively. High expression of ZEB2 was significantly associated with lower survival rate of GBM patients (P=0.001). PMID: 29476046
