Target Background

Function
Dopamine receptor whose activity is mediated by G proteins which inhibit adenylyl cyclase. Positively regulates postnatal regression of retinal hyaloid vessels via suppression of VEGFR2/KDR activity, downstream of OPN5.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Results indicate that D2 receptors modulate [(3)H]GABA release at striatopallidal terminals by activating the PLC-->IP3-->Calcineurin-signaling cascade, the same one that modulates excitability in soma. Additionally, D2 receptors inhibit release when AC is active. Both mechanisms appear to converge to regulate the activity of presynaptic L-type Ca(2+) channels. PMID: 29292080
  2. D2R knockdown in neurons whose cell bodies reside in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) shifted discounting curve to the left, indicating a preference for the smaller, immediate reward, whereas the curve for control rats remained stable and unchanged. Results demonstrate that a decrease in VTA D2Rs enhances choice impulsivity. PMID: 29287910
  3. more than half of parvalbumin neuron co-express high levels of alpha7 subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and/or D2-subtype of dopamine receptor PMID: 28834708
  4. Pre- and postsynaptic colocalization of kappa opioid receptor and D2R supports a role for kappa opioid receptor potentiating both the D2R inhibitory autoreceptor function and the inhibitory action of D2R on efferent medium spiny neurons. Kappa opioid receptor co-activation accelerates D2R sensitization by contributing to decrease dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens. PMID: 28531297
  5. Dopamine D2 receptor antagonism differentially affects aversive memory formation after acute or long-term sugar consumption. Results demonstrate that nucleus accumbens dopamine D2 receptors have a differential function during conditioned taste aversion depending on the degree of sugar familiarity. PMID: 28716589
  6. The prefrontal expression of distinct D2 dopamine receptor splice variants is supposed to be implicated in cognitive decline caused by early life immune challenge. PMID: 28673768
  7. Study examined the impact of D2 receptor activation and inhibition on the anxiogenic response to cocaine using a runway model of self-administration that is sensitive to the dual and opposing effects of the drug. Results demonstrate that activity at the D2 receptor in the lateral habenula serves to modulate the anxiogenic response to cocaine. PMID: 27155504
  8. Study provided pharmacological evidence for that activation of the ventral pallidum D2 dopamine receptors enhances memory consolidation and the long-term stability of the formed memory in inhibitory avoidance learning. PMID: 28057528
  9. Data provide evidences for the important role of ventral pallidum D2 dopamine receptors in the consolidation and stabilization of spatial memory. PMID: 27392640

  15. The data demonstrate an association between the anxious behavior of rats with A2/A2 genotype by DRD2 locus Taq 1A and the structural organization of cerebral basolateral nucleus of the amygdaloid complex in WAG/Rij rats with polymorphic variants of this locus. PMID: 27878728
  16. We encountered significant differences in the effect of neonatal lesion in the ventral hippocampus on drd2 and drd3 mRNA expression levels among the brain regions analyzed in rat adulthood. These findings suggest that expression levels of some dopamine receptors may be regulated during adulthood, leading to behavioral and neurochemical changes associated with schizophrenia.
