BECN1 Proteins

BECN1 (Beclin 1) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with BECN1 include Sphingolipidosis and Cervix Carcinoma. Among its related pathways are Metabolism of proteins and Autophagy - animal. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include sequence-specific DNA binding and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase binding. An important paralog of this gene is BECN2.

The following recombinant BECN1 proteins are manufactured in house under a complete QC system by CUSABIO. They are expressed by Yeast, E.coli, Baculovirus, Mammalian cell, In Vivo Biotinylation in E.coli. Highlights of these recombinant BECN1 proteins as follow:
High purity, Low endotoxin, Multiple Tags, Animal-free, Wide applications (Cell assay, Protein-protein interaction, Drug-related studies, Enzymatic activity in vitro, Protein structure analysis, etc.)

BECN1 Background

Beclin-1 is a protein in humans that is encoded by the BECN1 gene. The BECN1 protein is a mammalian ortholog of the yeast autophagy-related gene 6 (Atg6) and BEC-1 in the C. elegans nematode. This protein interacts with either BCL-2 or PI3k class III, playing a critical role in the regulation of both autophagy and cell death. BECN1 also plays a central role in autophagy. In addition to its role in autophagy, BECN1 is an important player in tumorigenesis, and neurodegeneration, being implicated in the autophagic programmed cell death. Ovarian cancer with upregulated autophagy has a less aggressive behavior and is more responsive to chemotherapy. Schizophrenia is associated with low levels of BECN1 in the hippocampus of the affected which causes diminished autophagy which in turn results in increased neuronal cell death.
