BRAF is a member of the RAF family of serine/threonine protein kinases. As a part of the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK pathway, BRAF transduces signals from RAS to ERK, eventually triggering many biological activities such as cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. BRAF is also considered as an oncogene whose mutations cause the aberrant activation of BRAF kinase, leading to sustained activation of the MAPK signaling pathway contributing to the growth and proliferation of carcinomatous cells. Therefore, numerous cancers are correlated with BRAF mutations. Anti-BRAF antibodies can detect the endogenous levels of BRAF protein and be used in the studies on cancer.
