Description

The product CSB-E08024h is a solid-phase ELISA kit for the quantitative detection of Intestinal Fatty Acid Binding Protein (iFABP/FABP2) content in human serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. The detection mechanism is based on the sandwich ELISA technique and enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction. The solution color develops in proportion to the amount of FABP2 content in the sample. And the color intensity can be measured at 450 nm via a microplate reader.

FABP2 is an intracellular protein abundantly expressed in the epithelial cells of the mucosal layer of the small intestine. It is involved in lipid absorption and metabolism. FABP2 is released from the small intestine into the bloodstream after cell disruption. It is also readily excreted by the kidneys and can be measured both in plasma and urine within hours of tissue damage. Plasma levels of FABP2 are associated with small intestinal diseases-necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and celiac disease. FABP2 has therefore emerged as a possible plasma marker for evaluating intestinal injury and inflammation.

FABP are thought to play a role in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters. FABP2 is probably involved in triglyceride-rich lipoprotein synthesis. Binds saturated long-chain fatty acids with a high affinity, but binds with a lower affinity to unsaturated long-chain fatty acids. FABP2 may also help maintain energy homeostasis by functioning as a lipid sensor.
