The lacY polyclonal antibody is developed by immunizing a rabbit with a recombinant Escherichia coli (strain K12) lacY protein. This triggers an immune reaction in the rabbit and then induces the production of lacY polyclonal antibodies. The lacY antibody is then purified using protein G affinity chromatography. The efficacy of this lacY antibody in detecting Escherichia coli (strain K12) lacY protein is confirmed through ELISA and WB assays.
The Escherichia coli (strain K12) lacY protein mainly facilitates the transport of lactose across the bacterial cell membrane. This protein is part of the lac operon, a genetic system that enables the bacteria to utilize lactose as a carbon source when glucose is limited. The lacY protein acts as a lactose symporter, coupling the transport of lactose into the cell with the movement of protons out of the cell, thus allowing E. coli to efficiently take up lactose from the environment for metabolism.
