Target Background

Function
After binding acetylcholine, the AChR responds by an extensive change in conformation that affects all subunits and leads to opening of an ion-conducting channel across the plasma membrane permeable to sodium ions.
Gene References into Functions
  1. the mechanism of interaction between [Upsilon4E]GID and the agonist binding pockets of the alpha4beta2 and the halpha7 receptors, and to estimate their relative binding affinities, was investigated. PMID: 27721068
  2. findings indicate that alterations in expression of the alpha4beta2 subtype of nAChR may be involved in the molecular mechanism(s) underlying the cognitive deficit associated with vascular dementia PMID: 26858154
  3. Data indicate that compounds showed favorable subtype selectivity for beta2*-nAChRs over beta4*-nAChRs. PMID: 23734673
  4. Artificial food colors and additives led to a decrease in the expressions of nAChR alpha4 subunits in male rats. PMID: 23429044
  5. Data suggest that alpha4 beta2 nicotinic receptors (Chrna4; Chrnb2) are involved in tolerance to DOPA exhibited as drug-induced dyskinesias in late stages of Parkinson's disease. PMID: 23583932
  6. The azabicyclic alcohol was found to compete with MTSEA between residues 6' & 13' in a state-dependent manner, but the reactive probe only bonded with 13' in the open state, suggesting that the 13' position is the dominant binding site. PMID: 22778816
  7. Data indicate that functional alpha4/beta2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (alpha4beta2 nAChR) plays a role in proliferation and differentiation fate into a neuronal lineage in neural progenitors of developing neocortex. PMID: 23056257
  8. nAChR alpha4 subtype contributes to the cholinergic nicotinic regulation of catecholamine signaling in the carotid body system. PMID: 22127290
  9. Our results identify a novel palmitoylation site on cysteine 273 in the M1-M2 loop of the alpha4 nAChR and determine that cysteines in both intracellular loops are regulatory factors in total and cell surface protein expression of the alpha4beta2 nAChR. PMID: 22593584
  10. The number of functional alpha4beta2 heteromeric neuronal nicotinic receptors is decreased in the brains of rats with severe renal failure. PMID: 22510484

  12. the lower alpha4beta2 nAChR number in spontaneously hypertensive rat compared with WKY may be a consequence of dysfunctional post-transcriptional regulation of nAChRs PMID: 21824140
  13. central alpha4beta2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors that enable a provoking effect of endogenous acetylcholine play a critical role in impulsive action PMID: 20639140

  16. Electrophysiological properties of Chrna4 indicate that Ser-284 plays an important role in the gating of nAChR along with Thr-276 and Ser-280 and suggest that the mutation at Ser-284 reduces nAChR activity similarly to other mutations of alpha 4 subunit. PMID: 11904236
  17. a role for alpha4beta2-like AChRs, but not alpha7 AChRs, in rapid excitatory transmission between alpha-motor neurons and Renshaw cells in rat spinal cord. PMID: 12037212
