The molecular weight of DNA refers to the total mass of its chemical composition, typically measured in Daltons (Da). The calculation considers the following factors:
1️ Single-stranded DNA Calculation
The molecular weight calculation for single-stranded DNA includes a 5' phosphorylation group (–79.0 Da) and adjusts for the number of free hydroxyl groups based on the molecular structure (linear or circular).
2️ Double-stranded DNA Calculation
The molecular weight calculation for double-stranded DNA includes the sum of both strands' molecular weights, plus adjustments for the connecting bonds between base pairs (–61.96 Da per base pair).
3️ Base Molecular Weights
Q1: Does this tool support RNA sequences?
A: Not yet. We currently support DNA only.
Q2: Can I calculate molecular weight for modified nucleotides (e.g., 5’ phosphate)?
A: This tool does not support custom modifications like fluorescent labels or unusual bases. However, for single-stranded DNA, a 5' phosphate group is included by default in the molecular weight calculation.
