Description

The product CSB-E04610r is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate ELISA kit for quantitatively analyzing the presence of the IL-18 in different biological samples, including serum, plasma, and tissue homogenates. This IL-18 ELISA kit specifically recognizes the rat IL-18 in the sample. It adopts the Sandwich ELISA technique in conjunction with antibody-antigen specific binding and an enzyme colorimetric reaction to indicate the presence of rat IL-18 and quantitatively measure the concentration of IL-18 in the samples.

IL-18 is a proinflammatory cytokine that primarily functions to augment the generation of IFNγ from T and NK cells, especially when IL-12p70 is present. It plays an important role in innate and adaptive immunity. IL-18 also promotes the production of other proinflammatory cytokines such as TNFα, IL-8, and IL-1β, to increase the expansion, migration, and activation of neutrophils during infections. In the central nervous system (CNS), IL-18 is involved in neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative processes and also influences homeostasis and behavior. IL-18 binds to IL-18Rα and then recruits IL-18Rβ, triggering the binding of MyD88, leading to the phosphorylation of IRAK andTRAF6 and activation of NFκB and MAPK pathways, eventually regulating related inflammatory gene transcription, including Ifng, Tnfa, Cd40l, and FasL.

Target Background

Function
(From Uniprot)
A proinflammatory cytokine primarily involved in polarized T-helper 1 (Th1) cell and natural killer (NK) cell immune responses. Upon binding to IL18R1 and IL18RAP, forms a signaling ternary complex which activates NF-kappa-B, triggering synthesis of inflammatory mediators. Synergizes with IL12/interleukin-12 to induce IFNG synthesis from T-helper 1 (Th1) cells and natural killer (NK) cells.
