Description

This recombinant monoclonal antibody is developed as a research-grade biosimilar to SOL-116, targeting carboxylesterase liver (CEL), also known as bile salt-activated lipase (BSAL). CEL is a digestive enzyme primarily expressed in the pancreas and liver that plays a critical role in lipid metabolism by hydrolyzing cholesterol esters, triglycerides, and other lipid substrates in the intestinal lumen. This enzyme is essential for dietary fat absorption and has been implicated in various pathophysiological conditions, including pancreatic disorders, metabolic diseases, and certain malignancies. Mutations in the CEL gene are associated with maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) and chronic pancreatitis, making it a relevant target for investigating digestive and metabolic dysfunction.

As a biosimilar to the reference antibody SOL-116, this reagent provides researchers with a reliable tool for investigating CEL expression, localization, and function in various experimental contexts. It supports studies examining pancreatic enzyme secretion, lipid digestion mechanisms, and the role of CEL in disease pathogenesis, offering valuable insights into digestive physiology and metabolic research.

Usage
It is a non-therapeutic biosimilar antibody, owning the same variable region from the corresponding approved therapeutic antibody. In conclusion, it is a research-grade biosimilar antibody and expressed in mammalian cell, which can be directly used as positive controls in drug discovery or used for rapid verification of the biological functions of target protein.

Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the hydrolysis of a wide range of substrates including cholesteryl esters, phospholipids, lysophospholipids, di- and tri-acylglycerols, and fatty acid esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFAs). Preferentially hydrolyzes FAHFAs with the ester bond further away from the carboxylate. Unsaturated FAHFAs are hydrolyzed more quickly than saturated FAHFAs. Has an essential role in the complete digestion of dietary lipids and their intestinal absorption, along with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.
Involvement in disease
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young 8 with exocrine dysfunction (MODY8)
Subcellular Location
Secreted.
Protein Families
Type-B carboxylesterase/lipase family
Tissue Specificity
Mammary gland and pancreas. Detected in pancreatic and duodenal juice (at protein level). Expressed by eosinophils.
