Target Background

Function
(From Uniprot)
Histone demethylase required for nervous system development. Specifically demethylates dimethylated 'Lys-9' and 'Lys-27' (H3K9me2 and H3K27me2, respectively) of histone H3, thereby playing a central role in histone code. Promotes mitochondrial stress-induced longevity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. jmjd-1.2 has a role in axon guidance that might be relevant for the onset of X-linked mental retardation PMID: 28126843
  2. Study demonstrates that both jmjd-1.2 and jmjd-3.1 are necessary and sufficient for activation of the UPRmt in C. elegans and identifies jmjd-1.2 and jmjd-3.1 as positive regulators of a longevity response that genetically requires UPRmt signaling. PMID: 27133168
Subcellular Location Nucleus.
Protein Families JHDM1 histone demethylase family, JHDM1D subfamily
Tissue Specificity Mainly expressed in neurons. Also weakly expressed in some muscle, intestinal and hypodermal cells.
