Target Background

Function
Required for cell growth and for the G2->M transition of the cell division cycle. Mediates a protein kinase cascade; it activates BCK1 which itself activates MKK1/MKK2.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Pkc1 in cooperation with calcineurin mediates cell survival under compressive mechanical stress. PMID: 29196524
  2. The Pkc1-mediated degradation of Pah1 was attenuated in the cho1Delta mutant, which is deficient in PS synthase, supporting the notion that the phospholipid regulates Pkc1 activity in vivo. PMID: 28154205
  3. Constitutively active Pkc1 can drive cells through a mitotic checkpoint arrest, which suggests that Pkc1-dependent activation of PP2A(Cdc55) plays a critical role in checkpoint signaling. PMID: 28100785
  4. Pkc1 also enhances H3T45 phosphorylation and this modification is required for H3K56 acetylation. PMID: 26468616
  5. Authors propose that Rho1 and Pkc1 coordinate septin ring assembly with membrane and cell wall remodeling partly by controlling Syp1 residence at the bud neck. PMID: 26179915
  6. The Mih1 is negatively regulated by Pkc1-mediated phosphorylation, which excludes it from the nucleus under certain conditions. PMID: 23510481
  7. This study connects the Pkc1 protein to the maintenance of genome integrity in response to genotoxic stresses. PMID: 24792164
  8. Data indicate that Pkc1-induced phosphorylation of the eisosome core components Pil1 and Lsp1 was not exerted directly by Pkc1, but involved signaling through the Slt2 MAPK module. PMID: 23221999
  9. Pkc1p has important role in controlling the correct temporal expression of genes in the cell cycle of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. PMID: 22966207
  10. The Pkc1 protein mediates oxidative signalling by helping to downregulate ribosomal gene expression when cells are exposed to hydrogen peroxide. PMID: 22093750
  11. The authors demonstrate that Pfy1 promotes actin polymerization under conditions of oxidative stress, while Pkc1 induces actin polymerization and cell survival under all the conditions tested. PMID: 19765090
  12. Pkc1 activity is required to overcome the effects of oxidative stress. PMID: 15637049
  13. Pkc1p may have a role in regulating microtubule function PMID: 15643058
  14. The PKC1 protein is overexpression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae PMID: 15664515
  15. Under heat stress conditions activation of PKC1 pathway is triggered by an increase in intracellular osmolarity, due to the accumulation of trehalose, rather than by the increase in temperature as such. PMID: 16085846
  16. Pkc1p function was required for posttranscriptional upregulation of Cln2p and appeared to be important for the coordinated regulation of polar bud growth and the cell cycle. PMID: 16141237
  17. Pkc1 acts through Zds1 and Gic1 to suppress growth and cell polarity defects of a yeast eIF5A mutant. PMID: 16157662
  18. Ubp3 can regulate Pkc1 by facilitating its destruction and provide the initial evidence that Pkc1 plays a positive role in modulating the parallel pheromone-signaling pathway. PMID: 17986446
  19. KNR4 is essential for cell viability in the absence of a functional Pkc1-Slt2 pathway, since the lethality caused by KNR4 deletion in such a genetic background could not be compensated by overexpression of any gene from yeast genomic libraries PMID: 18668512
