Target Background

Function
Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in regulated gene transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors. Required for regulated expression of genes controlling fatty acid desaturation by factors including sbp-1 and nhr-49.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Prolongation of survival under glucose exposure by quercetin is dependent on SIR-2.1, DAF-12, and MDT-15 PMID: 24407905
  2. MDT-15/MED15 is required for the xenobiotic-induced expression of p38 MAP kinase PMK-1-dependent immune genes and protection from Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection PMID: 24875643
  3. These findings reveal novel conserved players in the oxidative stress response and suggest a broad cytoprotective role for MDT-15. PMID: 23957350
  4. Mdt-15 worms exhibit disturbed endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis, as indicated by a constitutively activated endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response. PMID: 24843123
  5. Certain compounds have increased toxicity when combined with a dietary restriction regimen through increased metabolic activation through the MDT-15 transcription factor. PMID: 22132200
  6. A single subunit of the Mediator complex, MDT-15, integrates the activities of several distinct regulatory factors to coordinate metabolic and hormonal regulation of FA metabolism. PMID: 16651656
  7. the C. elegans ARC105 homologue MDT-15 is required for fatty acid homeostasis, and both SBP-1 and MDT-15 control transcription of genes governing desaturation of stearic acid to oleic acid PMID: 16799563
  8. propose a model whereby MDT-15 integrates several transcriptional regulatory pathways to monitor both the availability and quality of ingested materials, including nutrients and xenobiotic compounds PMID: 18454197
