Sulfated glycoprotein widely distributed in basement membranes and tightly associated with laminin. Also binds to collagen IV and perlecan. It probably has a role in cell-extracellular matrix interactions.

Results demonstrated that NID1 was a mesenchymal associated gene and its high expression was significantly correlated with shorter overall survival of ovarian cancer patients. The study presents evidence that NID1 promotes the migration, invasion and chemoresistance of ovarian cancer cells via EMT and its molecular mechanism involves the activation of ERK/MAPK signaling.
