Target Background

Function
(From Uniprot)
Component C2 which is part of the classical pathway of the complement system is cleaved by activated factor C1 into two fragments: C2b and C2a. C2a, a serine protease, then combines with complement factor C4b to generate the C3 or C5 convertase.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data indicate that activation of C5 in experimental cerebral malaria likely occurs via coagulation enzymes of the extrinsic protease pathway. PMID: 22689574
  2. The more pronounced lack of complement activation in Bf/C2-/- mice leads to uncontrolled infection due to an opsonophagocytic defect PMID: 18672286
Subcellular Location
Secreted.
Protein Families
Peptidase S1 family
