Target Background

Function
Responsible for physiological and behavioral changes in mated female flies. Associates with sperm and localizes to specific regions of the female reproductive tract, including the sperm storage organs. It accelerates sperm accumulation into storage but does not mediate the entry of the first sperm into storage. Once sperm storage has initiated it seems to act as a guidance factor helping subsequent sperm move into storage, a corral concentrating sperm around the SSO entrances and/or a trigger for responses within the female that accelerate storage of sperm.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Mutations of Acp36DE's cleavage site that slowed or prevented cleavage of the protein slowed the accumulation of sperm into storage, although they did not affect uterine conformational changes in mated females. PMID: 28676322
  2. once sperm storage has initiated, Acp36DE acts as a guidance factor helping subsequent sperm move into storage PMID: 12939382
  3. Mates of males lacking Acp36DE, which is needed for the accumulation of sperm in the storage organs, fail to complete the full sequence of the conformational changes in the mated female's uterus that occur during and immediately after mating. PMID: 19805225
Subcellular Location
Secreted.
Tissue Specificity
Detected in the male accessory glands (at protein level). Produced in the accessory glands and secreted into seminal fluid.
