Target Background

Function
Together with ABCG25, export abscisic acid (ABA) from the endosperm to deliver it to the embryo via ABCG30 and ABCG40-mediated import to suppress radicle extension and subsequent embryonic growth. Together with ABCG9, involved in pollen coat deposition of steryl glycosides required for pollen fitness. May be a general defense protein.
Gene References into Functions
  1. ABCG31 exports abscisic acid from the endosperm, regulating seed germination. PMID: 26334616
  2. ABCG9 and ABCG31 contribute to the accumulation of this sterol on the surface of pollen. PMID: 24474628
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
ABC transporter superfamily, ABCG family, PDR (TC 3.A.1.205) subfamily
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in seedlings, stems, leaves, siliques and inflorescence. In seeds, confined to the endosperm. Highly expressed in the tapetum of anthers.
