Target Background

Function
Non-alpha subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR). Acts in cholinergic motoneurons to regulate presynaptic neurotransmitter release, thereby ensuring normal level of excitation of cholinergic motoneurons during locomotion.
Gene References into Functions
  1. ACR-2(gf) in A and B class motor neurons induces aberrant synchronous activity in both ventral- and dorsal-innervating B and A class motor neurons. PMID: 23516296
  2. Yhe behavioral and physiological effects of acr-2(gf) require the activity of the TRPM channel GTL-2 in nonneuronal tissues. PMID: 21549603
  3. excess nAChR activation leads to progressive destabilization of the motor neuron processes and, ultimately, paralysis in these animals PMID: 20962215
  4. important for the coordinated excitation and inhibition of body muscles underlying sinusoidal movement PMID: 20027209
Subcellular Location
Cell junction, synapse, postsynaptic cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Ligand-gated ion channel (TC 1.A.9) family, Acetylcholine receptor (TC 1.A.9.1) subfamily
Tissue Specificity
Specifically expressed in cholinergic ventral cord motoneurons of the VA, VB, DA and DB classes but not AS and VC classes. Expressed in PVQ and DVC neurons in the tail.
