Target Background

Function
Actin-depolymerizing protein. Severs actin filaments (F-actin) and binds to actin monomers. Binds monomeric actin (G-actin) with a marked preference for the ADP-loaded form and inhibits the rate of nucleotide exchange on G-actin. Required for pollen tube growth. Promotes turnover of longitudinal actin cables by severing actin filaments in pollen tubes.
Gene References into Functions
  1. ADF7 evolved to promote turnover of longitudinal actin cables by severing actin filaments in pollen tubes. PMID: 24058157
  2. ADF7 and ADF10 play distinct roles during pollen development and pollen tube growth. PMID: 22751315
  3. ADF7 and ADF10 were differentially expressed with the ADF7 signal appearing in the microspore stage and that of ADF10 only during the polarized microspore stage. ADF7 was associated with the subapical actin fringe in germinating pollen grains. PMID: 21632657
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton.
Protein Families
Actin-binding proteins ADF family
Tissue Specificity
Specifically expressed in pollen.
