Target Background

Function
G-protein coupled receptor which is activated by type IV collagen, a major constituent of the basement membrane. Couples to G(i)-proteins as well as G(s)-proteins. Essential for normal differentiation of promyelinating Schwann cells and for normal myelination of axons. Plays also a role in inner ear development.; Plays an important role in heart development. Necessary and sufficient for axon sorting by Schwann cells independently of the ADGRG6-CTF.
Gene References into Functions
  1. A new zebrafish mutation that truncates Gpr126 disrupted development of peripheral nerves and the inner ear. PMID: 25118328
  2. GPR126 modulates both physiological and pathological angiogenesis through VEGF signaling PMID: 25217645
  3. a model in which the NTF of Gpr126, in contrast to the C-terminal fragment, plays an important role in heart development. PMID: 24082093
  4. Gpr126 acts through a cAMP-mediated pathway to control the outgrowth and adhesion of canal projections in the zebrafish ear via the regulation of extracellular matrix gene expression. PMID: 24067352
  5. gpr126 mutant Schwann cells elaborate mature myelin sheaths and maintain krox20 expression for months, provided that the early signaling defect is bypassed by transient elevation of cAMP. PMID: 23804499
  6. study found that Gpr126 is required autonomously in Schwann cells for myelination; propose that Gpr126 drives the differentiation of promyelinating Schwann cells by elevating cAMP levels, thereby triggering Oct6 expression and myelination PMID: 19745155
