Target Background

Function
Reduces the double bond in short-chain unsaturated carbonyls. Acts preferentially on alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones rather on alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes. Has no activity with (E)-2-hexenal and (E)-2-pentenal. Contributes to detoxify stromal reactive carbonyls produced under oxidative stress.
Gene References into Functions
  1. the detoxification of lipid-derived reactive carbonyl species by AtAOR in chloroplasts contributes to the protection of dark respiration and supports plant growth during the night. PMID: 26884484
  2. NADPH-dependent alkenal/one oxidoreductase (AOR) can contribute to detoxify stromal RCs produced under oxidative stress.[AOR] PMID: 22575657
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast.
Protein Families
Zinc-containing alcohol dehydrogenase family, Quinone oxidoreductase subfamily
