Target Background

Function
Subunit of clathrin-associated adaptor protein complex 1 that plays a role in protein sorting at the trans-Golgi network and early endosomes (TGN/EE). The AP complexes mediate both the recruitment of clathrin to membranes and the recognition of sorting signals within the cytosolic tails of transmembrane cargo molecules.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data show that AP1 gamma adaptins localize to the trans-Golgi network (TGN), and suggest that the AP1 complex on the TGN mediates tonoplast targeting of membrane proteins with the dileucine motif. PMID: 25351491
Subcellular Location
Golgi apparatus. Cytoplasmic vesicle, clathrin-coated vesicle membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side.
Protein Families
Adaptor complexes large subunit family
