Target Background

Function
Transcription factor required for phloem identity. Has a dual role both in promoting phloem differentiation and in repressing xylem differentiation during vascular development. Regulates the expression of the transcription factor NAC045 (AC A4VCM0). May activate the transcription of specific genes involved in phosphate uptake or assimilation. Promotes flowering through transcriptional activation of both FT and its transport machinery component, FTIP1.
Gene References into Functions
  1. APL (FE protein) regulates the transcription of FT and florigen transporter genes in different manners in leaf phloem companion cells. PMID: 29036620
  2. The FE protein regulates the expression of FTIP1 involved in FT transport. FE protein promotes flowering through transcriptional activation of FT and Ftip1. PMID: 26239308
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Protein Families
MYB-CC family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in shoots and roots, specifically in the developing protophloem sieve elements. Detected in phloem and/or cambium. Expressed in the phloem tissues of various organs, including leaves and cotyledons, during vegetative growth.
