Target Background

Function
Negative regulator of SPS-sensor signaling. Together with ASI2 and ASI3, prevents the unprocessed precursor forms of STP1 and STP2 that escape cytoplasmic anchoring from inducing SPS-sensor-regulated genes in the absence of inducing signals.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Latent precursor forms of Stp1 and Stp2 inefficiently enter the nucleus where Asi1 restricts them from binding SPS sensor-regulated promoters, revealing an unanticipated role of inner nuclear membrane proteins in controlling gene expression PMID: 16735580
  2. In dal81Delta mutants, the repressing activity of the Asi proteins is dispensable, demonstrating that without amplification, the levels of full-length Stp1 and Stp2 that escape cytoplasmic retention are insufficient to activate transcription. PMID: 17603098
Subcellular Location
Nucleus inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
