Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the eighth step in arginine biosynthesis. Also has a catabolic function as the first enzyme of citrulline utilization as nitrogen source via arginine and the reactions involved in the arginase pathway.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Mcm1p binding positively regulate ARG1 transcription and cell growth in the absence of arginine and Gcn4p. PMID: 20625780
  2. Gcn4p stimulates binding of Cyc8p/Tup1p at the 3' end of the ARG1 gene. PMID: 16314536
  3. Mcm1p contributes to active transcription at the ARG1 promoter by increasing the binding of the activator Gcn4p and by recruiting the co-activator complex SWI/SNF at ARG1 under Gcn4p-induced conditions. PMID: 19233144
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
Protein Families
Argininosuccinate synthase family, Type 1 subfamily
