Target Background

Function
Lipid transfer protein involved in autophagosome assembly. Tethers the edge of the isolation membrane (IM) to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mediates direct lipid transfer from ER to IM for IM expansion. Binds to the ER exit site (ERES), which is the membrane source for autophagosome formation, and extracts phospholipids from the membrane source to the IM for membrane expansion. Plays an essential role in plant nutrient recycling. Involved in the negative regulation of plant defense responses to biotrophic pathogens. Involved in a negative feedback loop that modulates NPR1-dependent salicylic acid (SA) signaling and limits senescence and immunity-related programmed cell death (PCD) in plants. Involved in the degradation of damaged peroxisomes.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The atg2-2 mutant showed enhanced resistance to powdery mildew and dramatic mildew-induced cell death as well as early senescence phenotypes in the absence of pathogens. Defense-related genes were constitutively activated in atg2-2. PMID: 21645148
Subcellular Location
Preautophagosomal structure membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.
