Target Background

Function
Produces ATP from ADP in the presence of a proton gradient across the membrane. The gamma chain is believed to be important in regulating ATPase activity and the flow of protons through the CF(0) complex.
Gene References into Functions
  1. ATPC2 shows equal activity in light & dark (roots). Redox potential for its thiol/disulphide transition is higher than that of ATPC1. In nonphotosynthetic plastids, it maintains a sufficient transthylakoid proton gradient for protein translocation. PMID: 22328157
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast thylakoid membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.
Protein Families
ATPase gamma chain family
