Target Background

Function
May function as sodium-coupled metabolite transporter across the chloroplast envelope.
Gene References into Functions
  1. these data indicate that BASS1 is a physiologically significant plastidial pantoate transporter and that the pantoate reduction step in pantothenate biosynthesis could be at least partly localized in plastids. [BASS1] PMID: 29382740
  2. Heterologous expression of the protein in bacteria lacking ketopantoate hydroxymethyltransferase restored growth with pantoate but not ketopantoate or pantothenate. Transient transformation demonstrates the protein is localized to the chloroplast envelope. T-DNA knockout mutants had smaller seeds and accumulate pantoate. PMID: 29382740
Subcellular Location
Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Plastid, chloroplast envelope.
Protein Families
Bile acid:sodium symporter (BASS) (TC 2.A.28) family
