Target Background

Function
Required for nuclear fusion, chromosome disjunction, and nuclear segregation during mitosis. Probably required for the formation or stabilization of microtubules during mitosis and for spindle pole body fusion during conjugation.
Gene References into Functions
  1. the microtubule-associated proteins Bik1 and Bim1 are important host factors in the process of plasmid localization to a certain sub-nuclear locale probably assisted by the motor protein, Kip1 and microtubules, perhaps by acting as an adapter between the plasmid and the motor and thus helping to anchor the plasmid to microtubules. PMID: 28004422
  2. Bik1p promotes the phosphorylation of Kar9p on serine 496, which affects its asymmetric localization to one SPB and associated cytoplasmic microtubules PMID: 16236795
  3. Bik1p has a previously uncharacterized function in the separation of duplicated Spindle Pole Bodies. PMID: 16972090
  4. functions of Bik1p and the various roles that Bik1p plays in positioning the mitotic spindle PMID: 17118263
  5. These results indicate that Bik1p interactions with tubulin are important for Bik1p plus-end tracking, and suggest alternative pathways for Bik1p-Kip2p-dependent dynein localization at plus ends. PMID: 18411245
