Target Background

Function

Transcription activator. Together with BRN1 and SMB, regulates cellular maturation of root cap. Promotes the expression of genes involved in secondary cell walls (SCW) biosynthesis.

SMB, BRN1, and BRN2, which are members of the Class IIB NAC transcription factor family, act redundantly to drive cellular differentiation and promote maturation of the root cap and the cell wall separations needed to produce a functional root cap. [BRN2] PMID: 20197506
