Target Background

Function
Essential protein. Negatively regulates the response to iron deficiency and thus contributes to iron homeostasis. Exhibits E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity in vitro. Plays a role in root growth, rhizosphere acidification, and iron reductase activity in response to iron deprivation. Facilitates 26S proteasome-mediated degradation of PYEL proteins in the absence of iron.
Gene References into Functions
  1. the two A. thaliana BTS paralogs, BTS LIKE1 (BTSL1) and BTS LIKE2 (BTSL2) encode proteins that act redundantly as negative regulators of the Fe deficiency response. PMID: 28620661
  2. mediates iron response by targeting basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors PMID: 25452667
Subcellular Location
Membrane; Single-pass membrane protein. Nucleus.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in cotyledons of seedlings, young leaves, developing and mature embryos, and other reproductive tissues including floral vasculature, funiculus, septum, and gynoecium valves.
