Function

Involved in pollen wall development. Catalyzes the conversion of long-chain fatty acids to the corresponding omega-hydroxylated fatty acids. Omega-hydroxylated fatty acids, together with in-chain hydroxylated fatty acids, are key monomeric aliphatic building blocks for sporopollenin synthesis during exine formation.

Gene References into Functions

Mutations in CYP704B1 result in impaired pollen walls that lack a normal exine layer and exhibit a characteristic striped surface, termed zebra phenotype. [CYP704B1] PMID: 19700560
