Target Background

Function
Required for Pcad induction, a promoter upstream of cadBA that is responsible for the pH-regulated expression of CadA and CadB. Probably acts as an activating transcription factor.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Here, the authors present the crystal structure of the CadC DNA-binding domain (DBD) and show that it adopts a winged helix-turn-helix fold. PMID: 28432336
  2. The disordered CadC linker is required for transducing the pH-dependent response of the periplasmic sensor into a structural rearrangement that facilitates dimerization of the cytoplasmic CadC DNA-binding domain. PMID: 25979249
  3. Substitution of Cys208 and/or Cys272 by alanine resulted in CadC derivatives that were active in response to only one stimulus, either lysine or pH 5.8. PMID: 21486484
  4. Results describe the crystal structure of CadC(pd) (residues 188-512) solved at a resolution of 1.8 A via multiple wavelength anomalous dispersion (MAD) using a ReCl(6)(2-) derivative. PMID: 21308846
  5. The authors present evidence that CadC negatively regulates the expression of the arginine-dependent adaptive acid-resistance system (AR3), encoded by the adi locus while it has no effect on the expression of AR1 and AR2 systems. PMID: 19959396
