Target Background

Function
Regulatory subunit of calcineurin, a calcium-dependent, calmodulin stimulated protein phosphatase. Confers calcium sensitivity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Results reveal that EF1, EF2, and EF3 of CNB1 stimulate phosphatase activity independent of known conformational changes induced upon Ca2+ binding that lead to calmodulin binding and relief of bipartite auto-inhibition mediated by C-terminus of CNA. Also, the study indicates that distinct Cnb1 EF hand domains differentially affect calcineurin function, and that EF4 is not essential despite conservation across taxa. PMID: 29735720
  2. The regulatory component of calcineurin, Cnb1, is essential for cell survival under compressive mechanical stress. PMID: 29196524
  3. Hsp90 prevented the death of calcineurin- and Cmk2-deficient cells. PMID: 18806210
