Target Background

Function
Acts as an actin nucleation factor and promotes assembly of actin filaments together with spir. May play a role in intracellular vesicle transport along actin fibers, providing a novel link between actin cytoskeleton dynamics and intracellular transport.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The loop and the seven missense mutations provides mechanistic insight into formin function in general and Capu's role in the Drosophila oocyte in particular. PMID: 25788286
  2. A role for the Capu-tail domain in assembling the actin cytoskeleton. PMID: 25246531
  3. Because Capu does not simultaneously bind microtubules and assemble actin filaments in vitro, its actin assembly and microtubule binding activities likely require spatial and/or temporal regulation within the Drosophila oocyte. PMID: 24362037
  4. Direct interaction between two actin nucleators (Spir and Capu) is required in Drosophila oogenesis. PMID: 24089467
  5. The interaction between Spire and Cappuccino is mediated by binding of the formin homology 2 (FH2) domain from Cappuccino to the kinase noncatalytic C-lobe domain (KIND) from Spire. PMID: 17923532
  6. Capu pathway controls alternative states of the oocyte cytoplasm: when active, it assembles an actin mesh that suppresses kinesin motility to maintain a polarized microtubule cytoskeleton. PMID: 17925229
