Target Background

Function

Cyclins are positive regulatory subunits of the cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), and thereby play an essential role in the control of the cell cycle, notably via their destruction during cell division. Probably functions redundantly with other cyclins in regulation of cell cycle. Its presence may be required to delay a deadline for completing cytokinesis that is ordinary imposed by nuclear envelope reformation. Degradation of CycB and CycB3 promote cytokinesis furrow initiation and ingression. Required with CycB for female fertility.

Gene References into Functions

overexpression of cycB3 dramatically increases the cystoblast(CB) number in Drosophila ovaries, suggesting that an excess of cycB3 function delays CB differentiation. Given that the cycB3 gene is evolutionarily conserved, from insects to humans, cycB3 may also be involved in controlling the fate of germline stem cells in humans. PMID: 29351213
Changing Cyclin B3 levels showed that it accelerated progress to anaphase, even in the absence of spindle assembly checkpoint function. PMID: 25754637
