Function

Involved in cuticule membrane and wax production, and in the typhine and sopropollenin biosynthesis of pollen. Core components of a very-long-chain alkane synthesis complex. May be the fatty acid reductase responsible for aldehyde formation.

CER1 interacts with both CER3 and CYTB5 to catalyze the redox-dependent synthesis of very-long-chain (VLC) alkanes from VLC acyl-CoAs. PMID: 22773744
