Target Background

Function
Transcription factor essential for the identity of ASE chemosensory neurons. Acts by activating expression of genes that are specific for ASE chemosensory neurons, such as seven-transmembrane receptors or guanylate cyclase. Also required to control the left/right asymmetry in ASE chemosensory neurons by regulating expression of genes such as cog-1 and ceh-36.
Gene References into Functions
  1. che-1 gene encodes a zinc finger transcription factor required for specification of the chemosensory neurons PMID: 12588839
  2. The ASE motif is a binding site for the C2H2 zinc finger TF CHE-1, which is essential for the correct differentiation of the ASE gustatory neuron. PMID: 17606643
  3. Both lesions map to the cis-regulatory control region of cog-1 and affect a phylogenetically conserved binding site for the C2H2 zinc-finger transcription factor CHE-1. PMID: 19189954
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in ASE chemosensory neurons and in some other neurons.
