Function

Converts Mg-protoporphyrin IX to Mg-protoporphyrin IX methylester using S-adenosyl-L-methionine as a cofactor. Involved in chloroplast-to-nucleus signaling by acting as a negative effector of nuclear photosynthetic gene expression.
