Target Background

Function
Extracellular signal peptide that regulates cell fate. Represses root apical meristem maintenance. Acts as an elicitor of the root meristem differentiation through the CLV2/CRN complex signaling pathway. Inhibits irreversibly root growth by reducing cell division rates in the root apical meristem. Regulates the transition of protophloem cells from proliferation to differentiation, thus impinging on postembryonic growth capacity of the root meristem; this signaling pathway requires CRN and CLV2.
Subcellular Location
[CLE14p]: Secreted, extracellular space.
Protein Families
CLV3/ESR signal peptide family
Tissue Specificity
Mostly expressed in roots, and, to a lower extent, in seedlings and leaves. Expressed in the primary root tip under Pi deficiency.
