Target Background

Function
Probable component of nuclear coiled bodies, also known as Cajal bodies or CBs, which are involved in the modification and assembly of nucleoplasmic snRNPs. Required for CBs formation. Binds snRNAs and non-specific artificial RNA via the N-terminal part of the NOD domain and via the NLS2 region (212-282) of the IDD domain. The two sites are able to function independently and provide effective RNA-binding in a non-cooperative manner.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The transcriptional and splicing changes observed in coilin mutants are not accompanied by gross phenotypic abnormalities or dramatically altered stress responses, supporting a role for coilin in fine tuning gene expression PMID: 27317682
  2. Physical properties of deletion mutants indicate that coilin might consist of an N-terminal globular domain, a central highly disordered domain and a C-terminal domain containing a Tudor-like structure adjacent to a disordered C terminus. [coilin] PMID: 23320094
  3. interaction between viral protein and coilin PMID: 22419098
  4. Atcoilin is required for Cajal body formation in Arabidopsis. [atcoilin] PMID: 16624863
Subcellular Location
Nucleus. Nucleus, Cajal body.
