Target Background

Function
Chaperone that serves for the intracellular sequestration and transport of Cu(+). Delivers Cu(+) to the copper-transporting ATPase CopA. Functions in E.coli to transfer Cu(+) to CopA missing its first metal-binding domain.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Studies demonstrate that Cu(I)-bound forms of dimeric CopZ containing more than one Cu(I) per CopZ monomer can transfer Cu(I) to apo-CopAab, leading to the formation of luminescent dimeric CopAab. PMID: 19751213
  2. The tetranuclear copper cluster of metallochaperone protein CopZ in the refined crystal structure comprises two subsets of Cu(I) ions in different coordination environments. PMID: 19746989
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
