Target Background

Function

Cytochromes P450 are a group of heme-thiolate monooxygenases. In liver microsomes, this enzyme is involved in an NADPH-dependent electron transport pathway. It oxidizes a variety of structurally unrelated compounds, including steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics.

CYP2D1 expression in liver is significantly impacted by blast-induced traumatic brain injury. PMID: 26913515
The CYP2D1 polymorphism caused by nucleotide substitutions (418A/421C versus 418G/421T) was responsible for interindividual variations. PMID: 24924387
There were marked differences in the degree of expression of the isoforms of P450, for example CYP2D1 was only weakly expressed in foetal ventral mesencephalon (VM) sections but expression was strong in VM cultures. PMID: 14523622
