Target Background

Function
This is a membrane-bound, calmodulin-sensitive adenylyl cyclase. Inactivation of this cyclase leads to a learning and memory defect.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Mutations in chico reduce expression of the rutabaga-type adenylyl cyclase (rut), leading to decreased cAMP synthesis in the mushroom bodies. PMID: 27048332
  2. Analyzing acquisition dynamics in Drosophila memory mutants reveals that rutabaga (rut)-dependent cyclic AMP signals couple in a divergent fashion for support of different memory components. PMID: 24174675
  3. Rutabaga-dependent ethanol self-administration may function through alcohol's positive reinforcement of feeding behavior in Drosophila. PMID: 22624869
  4. The results of this study supported the idea that GABA-rutabaga-dependent inhibition of gustatory interneurons is critical for PER habituation. PMID: 23169996
  5. Our results suggest that Rutabaga acts as a coincidence detector and demonstrate the existence of subcellular domains of PKA activity that could underlie the functional specialization of mushroom body lobes in aversive and appetitive learning. PMID: 20188656
  6. transient expression of the rutabaga-encoded adenylyl cyclase in the mushroom bodies of the adult brain was necessary and sufficient to rescue the rutabaga memory deficit and demonstrates an acute role for rutabaga in memory formation in these neurons PMID: 14657498
  7. In rut mutant flies, restoration of rut expression in a subset of alpha/beta neurons resulted in odor-pair-specific rescue. PMID: 16980542
  8. Learning scores at the second session were higher with shorter delays between two learning sessions and retrograde amnesia could decrease this memory score. rutabaga mutants showed learning deficits in experiments testing groups of flies. PMID: 17846780
  9. a novel role of rut in homeostatic plasticity PMID: 18539401
