Target Background

Function
Cytochrome bo(3) ubiquinol terminal oxidase is the component of the aerobic respiratory chain of E.coli that predominates when cells are grown at high aeration. Has proton pump activity across the membrane in addition to electron transfer, pumping 2 protons/electron. Protons are probably pumped via D- and K- channels found in this subunit.
Gene References into Functions
  1. selectively 15N labeled cyt bo3 samples have led to the unambiguous assignment of Nepsilon of R71 as the nitrogen that is strongly coupled to the QH site SQ in the wild-type enzyme and gives rise to the observed 14N ESEEM signals. PMID: 22497216
  2. Study determined the enzyme activity of cytochrome bo(3) (cbo(3))and the UQ-10 concentration in the membrane by cyclic voltammetry. PMID: 20096262
  3. Data show that the cytochrome bo3 tightly bound ubiquinone-8 at the Q(H) site is not displaced by ubiquinol-1 even during enzyme turnover. PMID: 20416270
  4. cytochrome bo requires Tyr288 for dioxygen reduction PMID: 15465820
  5. FTIR analysis of redox-induced protein structural changes in cytochrome bo PMID: 16040612
  6. analysis of heme-heme electron tunneling in the bo(3) enzyme, a bacterial relative to the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase PMID: 18087041
