Target Background

Function
Non-essential cell division protein that could be required for efficient cell constriction.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The data indicate the cellular requirement of both FtsN and DedD for septation as well as RodZ for cell elongation to maintain the small rod morphology at temperatures near 8 degrees C. PMID: 27477251
  2. Further analyses showed that DamX and, especially, DedD are genuine division proteins that contribute significantly to the cell constriction process. PMID: 19684127
  3. The loss of DamX or DedD either alone or in combination with mutations in genes encoding other division proteins resulted in a variety of division phenotypes, demonstrating that DamX and DedD participate in cytokinesis. PMID: 19880599
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.
