Target Background

Function

Methyltransferase that methylates adenine residues in the dsDNA sequence GATC. Essential for genome packaging because it methylates GATC sequences within the pac site making the latter cleavable. May prevent degradation of viral DNA by the host restriction-modification antiviral defense system.
