Target Background

Function
Involved in the formation of X-, Y-shaped and twinned plasmodesmata (PD), thus modelating PD size exclusion limit and regulating cell-to-cell transport. Cell cycle checkpoint regulator that monitors and responds to DNA damage such as DNA cross-links, and triggers the halt of the cell cycle progression in the presence of DNA cross-linking agents. Mediates the active process of aluminum- (Al) dependent root growth inhibition and thus is required for response to Al toxicity. Required for both early and late phases of embryo development as well as during seedling growth. Essential for signal transduction and development of both male and female organs.
Gene References into Functions
  1. ALT2 (AT4G29860) function together with SOG1 and ATR to halt root growth and promote terminal differentiation in response to chronic Aluminum exposure. PMID: 26320227
  2. DSE1 is important for regulating plasmodesmata transport between plant cells. [DSE1] PMID: 22411811
  3. TANMEI/ALT2 works in conjunction with ATR to detect Al-dependent DNA damage and actively halt root growth to allow for repair of this damage. PMID: 22345493
  4. TAN interacts with other proteins to control many aspects of embryo development [TAN] PMID: 16113228
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm. Nucleus.
Protein Families
Plant DSE1 protein family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed at low levels in floral buds, leaves, stems, roots, and siliques, highest levels being in siliques that contain developing seeds.
