Target Background

Function
Proton-dependent permease that transports di- and tripeptides. Shows significantly higher specificity towards dipeptides than tripeptides. Has a preference for dipeptides with a C-terminal Lys residue. Can bind Ala-Lys, Lys-Ala, Ala-Ala. Can also transport alanine and trialanine.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data indicate that Lys117 interacts with the dipeptide carboxylate in proton-coupled oligopeptide transporter YjdL. PMID: 25261786
  2. These results clearly indicate that unlike most proton-dependent oligopeptide transporters characterized to date, including YdgR and YhiP, YjdL shows significantly higher specificity towards dipeptides. PMID: 19703419
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
PTR2/POT transporter (TC 2.A.17) family
