Target Background

Function
This enzyme is involved in nucleotide metabolism: it produces dUMP, the immediate precursor of thymidine nucleotides and it decreases the intracellular concentration of dUTP so that uracil cannot be incorporated into DNA.
Gene References into Functions
  1. dUTPase from Drosophila has a similar affinity of binding towards alpha,beta-imino-dUTP as compared to the prokaryotic E. coli enzyme PMID: 15571280
  2. Crystal structure of E. coli dUTPase:alpha,beta-methylene-dUDP and E. coli dUTPase:dUDP:Mn complexes were determined PMID: 17932923
  3. Data conclude that beta-OH of the strictly conserved serine 72 exercises both ground state (GS) destabilization and transition state (TS) stabilization, effects not usually linked to a single residue. PMID: 18597482
